In 1911, the Shelburne Public Library was built on Owen Sound Street. The Library was made possible through a $6000.00 grant from the Carnegie Foundation.
In 2002, a SuperBuild Grant of nearly $600,000 was received from the Federal and Provincial governments, making it possible for our library to be rebuilt at double its previous size, and to become wheelchair accessible with the installation of an elevator. With dedicated fundraisers, generous donors and other community support an extra $300,000 was raised.
We now have a beautiful, modern, accessible facility; one that has preserved the Gothic style of the original library. The library also received an Ontario Heritage Award for the 2004 renovation and expansion that has brought it to its current and exciting pivotal point of full library service.
